Lured.
For this project, we had to choose a topic that we were passionate about and wanted to educate the viewer about. It had to be a black and white typography-based piece that would be shown in the student gallery on campus.
Upon researching the topic, I learned that there are a myriad of interconnected factors that are crucial for understanding the complex dynamics of the sex trafficking industry. It is also a topic that not only has many preconceived, and often inaccurate or insufficient, notions relating to it, but it is also a subject that has been covered in the media to a degree. This means that people are at least somewhat familiar with the topic.
The objective behind my piece was to allow the viewer to select information from categorized sections in order to fill in any gaps in their knowledge that may exist. Additionally, I wanted the piece to be comprehensive and easy to read, to aid those who had minimal prior knowledge of the topic.
I chose to print this piece on 78”X44” canvas because I wanted the physical size of the information to be analogous to the scale of the problem.
